“Scorp… why at the end of every party you have… does it end up with us on this rug?” Rose asked as she threaded her fingers through the thick strands of the rug. There was a stain of red wine near her ear.

Scorpius sighed. “Who knows? We’re obviously just able to take our… wassit called? Alcohol, that’s it! Where was I?”

Rose began to giggle. “I can’t remember. When did your date go home?”

“Oh… Merlin knows. She was chattering on about how the person you kiss at midnight would be the one you spent the next year with. I wasn’t particularly up for that and I think we had an argument. Anyway, she left before midnight,” Scorpius said. From his laid down position on the floor he grabbed the poker for the fire and moved the logs around.

“What are we like?” Rose said with a sigh.

“Destined to be alone for ever,” Scorpius declared dramatically, raising his arm in a sweeping motion.

“We’re 25, not dead,” Rose told him with a laugh.

“My parents were married and with me by now,” Scorpius said.

“So were mine,” Rose reminded him gently. “Times are different now; the world we live in is different now.”

Scorpius grunted his acquiesce. “Rose… my darling – “

“What do you want?” she teased. “I only ever get pet names when you want something.”

“Don’t be silly,” Scorpius said. He rolled over onto his side to face Rose. She mirrored his pose, pulling her dress over her arse. He grasped her hand tightly.

“Scorp, are you all right?” Rose said nervously.

“Yeah,” Scorpius said. “Perfect. Rose… what do you say… if we’re still single in ten years time… you and I get married?”

For a moment, Rose looked into his icy blue eyes. “Sounds like a plan to me,” she whispered, before she was pulled into a tight hug, with a kiss pressed to her forehead. In their drunken stupor, they fell asleep right there on the rug, the fire still burning.

The next morning, when Rose awoke and opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was blue. Confused, she frowned and turned onto her back before she remembered where she was; Scorpius’ living room floor. The blue was the colour of his shirt.

Even from lying down she could feel the headache that would come once she sat up. She thought she would have learnt by now – she was 25 after all – that mixing drinks and sleeping on floors was never a good idea.

“Scorpius,” she whined. “Wake up, I think I’m dying.”

All she got in reply was a grunt, and she was fairly sure there was a muttered, ‘Fuck off,’ there as well.

She groaned before she forced herself to sit up, and with the resulting head rush, Rose remembered what she had agreed to the evening before. God she hoped Scorpius wouldn’t remember. How awkward.

Scorpius had begun to snore again by this point, his limbs thrown about haphazardly, and his blond hair covering his face. There was no point waking him again, no matter how much she wanted him to make her breakfast. Plus, she had to be at her parents for lunch soon and desperately needed a shower to wash off cigarette fumes and alcohol spills. Fantastic.

“Father?” Scorpius yelled as he entered the Manor.

A door to the side of the entrance hall opened and his father emerged. “No need to shout.”

“Nice to see you too,” Scorpius said with a grin and he pulled his father into a hug.

“Dear God, Scorpius,” Draco said, holding Scorpius an arms length away. “By looking at you one would presume you were bought up in a barn.”

Scorpius laughed. “Do shut up; it’s windy.”

Draco raised an eyebrow. “Indeed. Your Mother is waiting in the living room. Seeing as you are not throwing up I presume you didn’t overdo it last night?”

“Quite a quiet New Years Eve in comparison to a few I’ve had,” Scorpius admitted with a sheepish grin.

Draco led Scorpius into the living room where his mother was sat. They greeted each other happily before she disappeared to find the house-elves to order them to bring tea and cake.

“How’s Rose?”

Scorpius sighed. “Fine I think.”

“You think?” Draco asked. Scorpius appreciated his father’s acceptance of his friendship with Rose more than anything. They had been friends since they began school, and best friends since they began NEWT level Potions together. Since then, they had temporarily flat shared, attended every wedding of their school friends together, holding each other up as they drank too much champagne, and supported each other through a vast number of disastrous break-ups.

“We were a bit drunk last night – not ridiculous by any means – but still a bit tipsy and we fell asleep on the rug in the living room. I think I said something stupid,” Scorpius confessed.

“What was it this time?” Draco asked.

Scorpius frowned at his father. “I may have possibly hinted - and by hinted I mean explicitly said – that we should get married if we’re still single when we’re 35.”

“What happened to the one you were dating?” Draco asked.

“Oh,” Scorpius said. “We broke up… she was jealous of Rose.”

“And you haven’t spoken to Rose since?”

Scorpius shook his head. “She woke me up in the morning to tell me she was dying, but I fell to sleep straight away.”

“Dying?”

“Hangover,” Scorpius said dully. “Maybe she won’t remember.”

“Do you want her to remember?” Draco asked shrewdly.

Scorpius wrinkled his nose. “I don’t know. I mean… it’s Rose. We’ve been friends forever, I wouldn’t want to jeopardise that. Neither would she. So it’s useless and I just fucked up for nothing.”

“I always thought you had a thing for her,” Draco said.

“I don’t!” Scorpius said in surprise. “It’s Rose, and I mean yeah, she is pretty fit and she’s lovely, and I love her, but that doesn’t mean I want to go out with her and marry her, does it?”

“I think you just answered your own question there, Scorpius,” Draco said quietly, and at that moment, his mother reappeared with a tray of tea and cake, muttering about the ineptitude of their house-elves.

As she chattered on to his father, who was doing his best to ignore her, Scorpius reflected on the conversation he’d just had with his father. He didn’t fancy Rose, did he? Well, he had at a few points during their friendship, but that was only natural wasn’t it? He had been a horny teenage boy after all. Not that that explained the crippling crush he had a year or two ago. But he didn’t fancy her now and that was the main point. Although she had looked gorgeous last night in that green dress, with her long, dark hair curled and draped over her shoulder.

“Oh fuck!” Scorpius said, not realising he had spoken aloud, before his mother gasped at his language.

He muttered sorry before he sank into his own thoughts again, his father giving him a knowing look as he wondered how he’d get over his crush this time. It felt a lot more this time. But then again it had been ten years in the making.

“Oh, Rose,” her mother sighed as she fell from the Floo.

“Hi, Mum,” Rose said as her mother planted a kiss on her cheek before giving her a shrewd look.

“Have you been drinking?” Hermione asked.

“Only a bit,” Rose lied. “I’ll tell you later, once the rabble has died down.”

“Oh, no you won’t,” Hermione said. She pulled a hair band from her wrist and tied up her cloud of hair into a nearly neat bun. “You’ll tell me now so we can fix it and you don’t look like a wet weekend all day.”

“What time’s everyone coming?” Rose asked.

It was tradition in her parents house for her aunt and uncle, Harry and Ginny and their kids to come around every New Years Day. They spent it in front of the fire, the adults nursing their hangovers and the kids playing. Well, it hadn’t been like that in quite a few years now, Lily was 21, and she was the youngest. It was still an enjoyable day and a reunion as well.

“In about an hour,” Hermione said. “So plenty of time.”

“Where’s Dad?”

“In the kitchen peeling potatoes with Hugo while they listen to the Cannons,” Hermione said with a roll of her eyes. Rose laughed. Her brother and father both had an intense passion for the Cannons that bordered on obsession. If Rose had a Galleon for every time she’d heard her mother say she thought Dad loved the Cannons more than her, she would be a very rich woman.

Rose groaned and sat down on the sofa heavily. “Fine.”

Hermione sat down on the sofa next to her daughter and looked at her expectantly.

“It’s Scorpius – “

Hermione tutted. “What’s that boy done now?”

“Asked me to marry him.”

“Excuse me?”

“Well, not exactly. He said if we were both single when we were 35 we’d get together. And I sort of agreed. He might not remember it though, he was wasted,” Rose told her mother.

“But you don’t want to wait until then,” Hermione said shrewdly.

“That’s over, Mum, I don’t fancy him anymore, it was years ago. How pathetic would I have to be to fall in love when I was 18,” Rose sighed.

“Apart from the fact that me and your father were together at 18 and still are, I never said you were in love with him. I don’t think you are yet. But you could be if you let yourself fall for him, and he let you,” Hermione said.

“I do love him as a friend,” Rose said, “and I can see myself with him, I suppose.”

“Don’t be silly there’s no suppose about it. There never was.”

Over the next few weeks, as Rose got busier at work and Scorpius was pulled away to France on a conference, they lost touch.

Maybe that was just how it was supposed to be. Rose had thought that after that night, that ultimatum would mean that something would either spark between them or fade completely. It looked like it had faded.

With a sigh, Rose smoothed down the folds of her dress and added a last layer of mascara to her eyes. Tonight was her Grandad Arthur’s 75th birthday party, and it was a big family do, with everyone going.

Usually she went with Scorpius, and he would be there to fend off Albus’ pranks when he got drunk and tell James to bugger off when he began to talk about politics. He would dance with her younger cousins, charming them with his gorgeous good looks. He would come round to her flat an hour before and tell her she looked gorgeous in whatever dress she had chosen, then pour her an inch of Scotch for Dutch courage. He wasn’t coming with her tonight though. Her forecast for tonight was getting horribly drunk and being carried home by Hugo as they tried to hide her miserable state from her father. Fantastic.

It turned out her prediction was quite true. She was horribly drunk. She’d thrown up once from being spun around the dance floor one too many times. After twenty minutes sat down and a few pints of water she felt a lot better, and a lot more sober. But then she saw a flash of blonde hair through the crowds and suddenly she wished she was passed out on her bed at home, or at least with her head down the toilet.

Albus walked over and sat next to her.

“Are you as drunk as I am?” he whined.

“God, yes, I’ve thrown up once.”

“I turned to drink after I saw Dad starting to dance. I really don’t need to remember tonight, or Grandma Molly asking why I wasn’t married with eleventy billion children yet,” Albus said. He put his head on the cool table.

“I’m just in a ‘I can’t be arsed to talk to people’ kind of mood, if you know what I mean?” Rose said moodily. She started to pick the label off a bottle.

“Oh yeah,” Albus said reverently. “I wasn’t allowed to be in that mood, I got threatened by Mum.”

Rose laughed. “Where’s Lily disappeared to?”

“Gone off with her boyfriend,” Albus said gloomily.

“At least someone is getting a shag tonight,” Rose muttered.

Albus wrinkled his nose. “Lily is a virgin, do not spoil my illusions.”

“Only as much as you are,” Rose told him with a giggle.

“Shut up,” Albus said into the table cloth.

There it was again, that flash of blond hair.

“Is… is Scorpius here?” Rose asked.

Albus lifted his head. There was a beer mat stuck to it. “Yeah he got here like ten minutes ago. I’m surprised you didn’t come with him, you usually do.”

“We had a falling out,” Rose said quietly. “Why is he here?”

“Probably got an invite anyway, he’s at every party this family has,” Albus said and pulled the beer mat off his forehead. He began to tear it up, making a little pile on the table.

“That’s supposed to mean you’re sexually frustrated,” Rose pointed out.

“No it isn’t,” Albus said automatically. “That’s tearing labels off bottles.” He looked pointedly at her bottle, which was very definitely label-less.

“Should I go and find him?” Rose asked.

“Only if you’re going to tell him how you feel,” Albus said kindly. “If you’re not, Dad’s just started to do the time-warp, you can come and get wankered with me. God I love free bars.”

“I should talk to him,” Rose said hesitantly. “It’s so awkward. Once it goes badly, I’ll find you and we can drink until our eyes bleed, yeah?”

“Deal,” Albus said and they shook hands. “Speak of the devil,” he muttered as Scorpius approached their table, “good luck, Rose.”

“Thanks,” she said and Albus walked to the bar, and left her sitting down, Scorpius looking down at her.

“Hello,” he said. “It’s been a while.” He sat down in the seat that Albus had just vacated.

“What are you doing here?” Rose blurted out.

“Hello, Scorpius, I’m fine thanks, you?” he mimicked.

“Oh, shut up,” she sneered. “Why are you here?”

“I haven’t seen you in a while,” Scorpius said. “And I know your mother, and I know you wouldn’t be allowed to miss this for all the tea in China.”

“Did you get an invite?” Rose asked.

“Yes,” Scorpius said. He really did look very handsome in his shirt and his hair looked gorgeous, and he was just beautiful. Why would he want her? “I always do.”

“We could have spoken somewhere but here though, this is a family thing,” Rose said.

“I thought I was family,” Scorpius said. Was that a hint of sadness Rose could hear in his voice?

“Scorpius!” Rose exclaimed, exasperated.

He stood up, his fists clenched. “What, Rose? I thought I meant something to you. But it’s all been different since fucking New Years.”

“You’re making a scene,” she hissed and grabbed his arm.

“My house. Now,” he said through gritted teeth and Apparated away. With a longing look at the party, she Apparated away. This was it, this was the make or break; it had finally come.

She popped into the house, and before she knew what was happening, before she had her bearings, she had been pushed against a wall, Scorpius’ lips against hers.

It took her a second to respond, but as soon as she did, slipping her tongue into his mouth to slide along side Scorpius’, she was rewarded with a moan. Reluctantly, she pulled away, holding Scorpius’ face in her hands.

“Are you sure?” she asked. “Are you sure about this? Because if you aren’t, we need to stop right now.”

“Rose, I want you so much. I have done… for a while, I’m sorry I haven’t said anything it’s just – “

“I know,” Rose said with a nod of her head. “I know.”

“This is okay then?” Scorpius asked nervously.

“This is perfect,” she said and drew him into another kiss.

Shedding clothes as they went, they stumbled up the stairs, doing their best to keep their lips together. Not touching each other right now would be unbearable, unthinkable, impossible.

Finally in Scorpius’ room, they stood facing each other, looking at each other as if for the first time. Blushing slightly, Rose tried to cover her herself up, tried to pull her knickers as if it would magically make them grow. Across from her stood Scorpius, dressed in just a pair of tight black boxer shorts and staring at her from underneath his fringe, looking more fuckable than she could ever remember.

He took a few steps towards her before his hands guided her to sit down on the bed. His eyes never leaving hers, Scorpius sunk to his knees between her legs. He raised his hands to grasp at her knickers, inching them down her thighs, gently kissing the caps of her knees. Rose sighed and fell back to lie on the bed. She heard as her knickers were thrown somewhere, then felt as her legs were parted and put over Scorpius’ shoulders.

With no warning, a warm tongue licked her straight up and down before resting on her clit, rubbing it in a methodical rhythm that felt oh-so-fucking good. Rose’s hands grasped at the bed sheets tightly, her body thrumming with arousal already. Scorpius reached down and slid a finger inside her, moving it in and out of her until she was moaning and pushing down, begging for more.

But Scorpius didn’t stop, his tongue sped up and he slid another finger inside her, moving them in a mirror of how he was going to fuck her later on.

“Harder,” she begged and moaned loudly as her begging was followed enthusiastically, fantastically, God, he was amazing at this.

As his tongue circled her, never leaving her clit, she felt the tell tale build up in her stomach, a knot being knotted, until her toes curled and her back arched and she was coming and coming and coming with a loud moan of Scorpius’ name. Scorpius pulled his mouth away from her, kissing her thigh once before rocking back on his heels, grinning mischievously.

“All right?” he asked cheekily.

Rose nodded; she couldn’t speak. She motioned for him to join her, and he lay on the bed next to her. Rose pulled him into a kiss, tasting herself on his tongue before she rolled on top of him.

“Take your bra off,” he said, his breathing heavy.

Rose grinned down at him, swishing her long hair over her shoulder and reaching behind her back to undo the hooks. She let the bra fall from her body before Scorpius took hold of it and discarded it carelessly.

“You’re fucking amazing,” he said. Scorpius’ hands moved up to grab her breasts, his thumbs automatically going to circle her nipples, urging them to hardness.

Rose rocked forwards slightly, feeling his cock hard beneath her.

She blinked at him innocently. “I think your boxers may be getting wet.”

“Maybe we should get rid of them then? We don’t want them getting any dirtier do we?” he asked with a wide grin.

Rose smiled and moved down his body, her fingers grasping at his boxer shorts and pulling them down. His cock sprang free from its confines and he groaned as the cool air hit it.

With a similar attitude to Scorpius’ Rose discarded his boxers and knelt between his legs.

“I’m going to suck your cock,” she told him. “And then you’re going to fuck me. Is that all right?”

Scorpius groaned in response and thrust his hips upwards.

Rose grinned to herself and took his cock in her hand. It was a nice size, long and thick and Rose had the sudden urge to fuck the blow job and just sink herself onto it. But she wouldn’t; she would tease him a bit first.

She leant down and licked up his cock, from root to tip before taking the head in her mouth and sucking gently. Scorpius moaned beautifully as she did this over and over again, and she took his hand in hers, squeezing it tightly. Rose lowered her mouth, taking as much of Scorpius in her mouth as she could manage before she bobbed her head. There was nothing she liked better than doing this, feeling a man come apart because of her mouth, tongue, fingers. But she needed more right now, more.

Rose pulled herself off him, smiling as he groaned at the loss. She crawled back up his body before straddling his lap.

“You’re on a Contraceptive Potion, yeah?” Scorpius asked. His fringe was sweaty and his hands grasped at Rose’s thighs tightly.

Rose nodded. “Yeah. Don’t worry.”

“Okay.”

Rose took his cock in her hand and raised herself up, lining his cock up to her entrance before sinking down slowly with a groan.

“Oh, Rose,” Scorpius moaned as she began to move up and down, fucking herself on his cock. She leant down to kiss him, slipping her tongue in his mouth. Scorpius grasped her arse with his hands before tipping them over so she was beneath him.

Rose moaned as he pulled out of her completely, before sinking back into her, hard and fast. She raised her legs to wrap around his waist, pulling him into her even further.

She had no idea how long it carried on as she watched Scorpius fucking her, his sweaty fringe falling in his eyes as he stared down at her. Rose tensed her muscles around his cock and then felt as he began to speed up even more, his thrusts inside her becoming more and more erratic. He came with a shout, flooding her, before he collapsed next to her, kissing her roughly.

She pulled away, breathing heavily, to lay back and catch her breath.

A minute later she heard Scorpius pipe up, “Maybe now we won’t have to wait until we’re 35.”

She laughed hoarsely and pulled the covers over her naked body. “Maybe we won’t,” she said to him with a smile.
